The Government of Mexico City, led by the head of Government Clara Brugada, has launched the Megabachetón 2025 program with the aim of eliminating 200,000 potholes on the main roads of the capital. This ambitious project will be carried out on about 277 major thoroughfares in approximately 120 days, addressing a backlog of at least 182,000 potholes throughout the city.
As part of this program, the participation of 5,000 new workers distributed in 500 crews is expected, who will use 5,000 tons of asphalt daily. To carry out these tasks, 250 pavement cutters, 250 dump trucks, 250 hydrocompactors, and 500 basic tool kits will be utilized, with a scheduled operation from Monday to Saturday.
During a press conference, Clara Brugada highlighted that the Bachetón program, which started in 2024, managed to repair 756 potholes per day, and emphasized the importance of coordination among the governments of the 16 boroughs to ensure the effective rehabilitation of streets and avenues. She also called on mayors to start the next pothole repair season at the end of October, once the rainy season is over.
In the first phase of the Bachetón, 83,198 potholes were repaired throughout Mexico City, showing a daily average of 756 repairs. Clara Brugada underscored the importance of having roads in good condition to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow, as well as convenience for public transport users, cyclists, and pedestrians.
For his part, the Secretary of Works and Services, Raúl Basulto, detailed that partial road closures will be implemented starting at 10 PM, fully reopening traffic at 5 AM, to facilitate the execution of pothole repair works and minimize inconveniences to the citizens.
